2024-25 Large Chapter of the Year

ACEC California recognizes the Riverside-San Bernardino Chapter as the 2024-25 Large Chapter of the Year. This prestigious award celebrates a year of exceptional leadership, growth, and service to the engineering and land surveying professions. 

Throughout the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the Riverside-San Bernardino Chapter demonstrated a deep commitment to ACEC California’s mission through: 

• Membership Growth: Welcoming 7 new member firms and 141 FTEs, winning the Chapter Membership Drive for Large Chapters.
• Industry Engagement: Hosting monthly luncheons with key agencies including SBCTA, Caltrans, Brightline West, and San Bernardino County Public Works.
• Student Support: Awarding $24,000 in scholarships to 20 students and contributing $8,000 to the ACEC California Scholarship Foundation.
• Legislative Advocacy: Participating in Legislative Visit Days in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., meeting with 10 legislative offices to advocate for industry-supportive policies.
• PAC Fundraising: Organizing successful events that raised over $9,700 in support of the ACEC Federal PAC. The chapter met its PAC fundraising goal by an impressive 280%.
• Community Outreach: Engaging students at Cal Poly Pomona and Chino Hills High School, and launching a Golf Academy for Emerging Leaders.
• Communication Excellence: Maintaining an active website, LinkedIn presence with 575+ connections, and sending over 70 targeted email updates via Mailchimp.

Brian Smith, HDR

Chapter Member of the Year

Brian Smith is the Riverside-San Bernardino Chapter Member of the year. He been fully engaged with the chapter monthly officers’ meetings, programs committee, Caltrans Professional Liaison Committee, State Board Director alternate, and Membership Chair. Through his leadership and industry networking connections, the chapter has been able to secure SBCTA, RCTC, and San Bernardino County agency leaders for luncheon event presenters for the membership. Brian has successfully run the Chapters Caltrans Professional Liaison Committee with events every two months that have provided our membership with beneficial content to help with future procurements. In his first year as Membership Chair, he was able to recruit seven (7) firms for a total of 141 FTE’s that increased our chapter member firms by 15% in one year.

Brian is a Senior Highway Project Manager for HDR and has been an active board member with the ACEC RIV/SB Chapter for more than 7 years. He has contributed every year in many ways and has helped promote our profession, grow our membership, and assist with ACEC California's initiatives and goals at the State and Local level.
