As a statewide organization, we are dedicated to enhancing the consulting engineering and land surveying professions, protecting the general public and promoting use of the private sector in the growth and development of our state. Our members provide services for all phases of planning, designing and constructing projects. Member services include civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical and mechanical engineering and land surveying for all types of public works, residential, commercial and industrial projects. ACEC California is the nation's largest Member Organization in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). Membership in ACEC California means automatic membership in ACEC, and representation at the national level. ACEC California consists of 21 local chapters covering the state, a Board of Directors (elected by the chapters), multiple policy and programming committees, many affiliated organizations, and a state office headquartered in Sacramento.
Chapters are an essential component of ACEC California. Members acquire many personal relationships, gain valuable business contacts and exchange important information about local public agencies. More and more projects require teams, and ACEC California chapters are excellent places in which to create such teams. Successful local chapters provide their members with influence in local governmental affairs and increased visibility for member firms in their communities. All ACEC California members are strongly encouraged to become active in their local chapters. Committees are the backbone of ACEC California. They enable our organization to effectively carry out the goals, programs and activities that our membership desires. The ACEC California committee structure is organized into six focus groups called Program Areas: Operations and Planning; Membership Development and Services; Legislative; Procurement; Promoting the Profession; and Business Practices and the Regulatory Environment. One member of the Executive Committee is responsible for working with the committee chairs from each of the committees within a Program Area to determine each committee’s charter and goals for that year. Committees operate on a fiscal year basis, from July to June. Prior to the start of each fiscal year, the ACEC California President takes a close look at each committee, reorganizes the committee structure as needed, and assigns volunteers to committees. Current ACEC California Program Areas with their committees are:
