ACEC California and ACEC National Express Support
for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity
The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), headquartered in Washington D.C., released the following statement of support for equity, inclusion, and diversity in America on June 5, 2020:
“The engineering profession has always been grounded in integrity, fairness and service to community. Engineers build communities. We create space and by extension, we create social experience. We support equality and respect for all humankind. We believe in providing equitable opportunities within our profession to support untapped potential both within our work-force and within the communities we serve. And we have the power to foster progress by breaking down the physical barriers that can inhibit economic and social equity.
Those are the principles that guide our community through this difficult time. Through ACEC we will embrace inclusion and diversity and continue to focus our members on ways to lift people up to become their best selves and to make our companies models of the values we em-brace.”
This statement is consistent with the fundamental aspects of ACEC California’s core values:
ACEC California's core values are personal characteristics that empower our membership:
• Character...Ethical, Open and Trustworthy
• Respect...Inclusive, Tolerant, and Fair
• Competence...Knowledgeable, Innovative, Credible
• Solving Problems...Engaged, Result Oriented
The professions of engineering and land surveying are not immune to issues of equality related to race and gender. Many members have a diverse and effective workforce. However, we recognize that we can do more to publicly demonstrate our belief in our core values. ACEC California calls on all of its member firms to identify individuals who will volunteer to participate on our Diversity Leadership Council, so that we may seek to develop more proactive steps within our organization. If you have an interest in volunteering, please click here. We need your involvement!
As a statewide organization, we are dedicated to enhancing the consulting engineering and land surveying professions. We believe that the more diverse, inclusive and equitable we are as an organization, the wiser and stronger our advocacy and regulatory work will be for our industry.
